-.-

That's from Ilosaarirock. Original url here: http://areena.yle.fi/video/1148723

I translated it for Hyperspace in IRC, so I'll just adjust it a bit:

They're sitting at Ilosaarirock's VIP backstage area and the interviewer is having nice time, and when he asks Marco how he feels, Marco says it's a regular work day and so.

The interviewer doesn't really know heavy metal, but he still knows Marco from his voice, so he asks Marco if it's possible to train your voice. Marco replies that it's possible to train it, but narrow nasal cavities, a cronic flu and lots of cigarettes give you rough sound. Then he suggests people to pay attention how some great singers sing. He mentions at least Rob Halford here, I don't hear the second name too well.

Then the interviewer asks Marco about how he started his singing and so.

Turns out Marco has taken singing lessons, but he doesn't think the singing lessons were any good, at least for the teachers, since the grades he got in singing at high school were like 6 or 7 (on a scale of 4-10), they probably didn't like his style. So he kind of learned on his own by listening records of his old idols and singing along. Good and simple solution, which also takes out the weak, those who don't simply have what it takes.

After that the interviewer reveals that he knows nothing about singing (or technical side of music) (...or Finnish either...) by asking a pretty weird question, and Marco says he started singing at 11 along Rainbow's Long Live Rock 'n' Roll, so it was easier to keep his voice higher, 'cause he started before the voice mutation (whatever it's called, the thing with boys growing up).

Then Marco states Johnny Rotten is one of his vocalist idols, and that you don't really need to be that technical always. He just has a great attitude.

After that the interviewer reveals that he has ipod of his colleague, who's into metal, so he wants to play few songs and see if Marco recognizes them and if Marco would be able to sing that stuff.

First one is Helloween, Marco refuses to sing. He thinks he might be able to do that, but he doesn't want to try because it's not manly enough. And the second one, Judas Priest, he would like to be able to sing, but he says Halford is so extremely manly that it's too much for him. Judas Priest is an important band for him.

Next one is Manowar, he doesn't sing that either. Eric Adams and whole of Manowar are extremely manly, a group of most gallant men. Except that he's seen Joey DeMaio shave his arms.

High and loud, good voice when there's a fire. He didn't know it was Slayer, but he would've guessed it. He doesn't know all their material, but likes them based on the records he owns and the gigs he has seen.

Paljon kiitoksia Cursarion!

Listening to that interview was slightly painful for me. The interviewer was kind of dorky or maybe silly.

Your translation was nicely done. http://forum.nightwish-world.com/public/style_emoticons/default/765.gif

Thanks. The translation is not word to word, but it does pretty much cover everything. I agree that the interviewer was bit silly. Also, I was surprised to notice that 7 and a half minutes of interviewing only resulted in that little amount of text.
